New Thrift Market Finds a Home at Red Hill Bowls

Red Hill Thrift Market

A new second-hand fashion market has arrived at Red Hill Bowls, giving locals a Sunday morning spot to browse pre-loved clothing, shoes and accessories — or sell pieces from their own wardrobes.

The Thrift Market, run by Her Wardrobe Markets, made its Red Hill debut on 2 August and is scheduled to return on Sunday 30 August.

Held at Red Hill Bowls on Fulcher Road, the market combines racks of second-hand fashion with coffee at the bowls club and free entry for shoppers.

Red Hill Gets a New Sunday Market

The Red Hill event is part of an expansion by Her Wardrobe Markets, which is introducing markets at several locations across Brisbane and the Gold Coast, including Red Hill, Newstead, Indooroopilly and Tugun.

The next Red Hill market will run at Red Hill Bowls, 22 Fulcher Road, with shopping from 8am to noon.

The focus is firmly on second-hand fashion, with clothing, shoes and accessories offered by individual sellers.

Turning a Wardrobe Clean-Out Into Cash

The format is designed to make it relatively easy for people to sell clothes from their own wardrobes.

For the 30 August market, sellers have been offered two stall formats. The indoor “Twice as Nice” option, advertised at $75, includes two professional clothing racks and a trestle table already set up. This option is currently listed as sold out.

A 3m by 4m “Lawn Party” space is advertised at $50 plus booking fee, with sellers providing their own setup, such as racks, tables or a marquee.

The organiser is also promoting a “Thrifty Fifty” approach, with most items expected to be priced between $5 and $50, although vintage and designer pieces can be priced higher.

Entry is free for shoppers.

From Warehouse Sales to Second-Hand Fashion

Her Wardrobe Markets says it launched in 2015, after its founders had previously run Brisbane fashion warehouse sales dating back to 2008.

According to the organiser, those earlier events included large fashion sales at Brisbane City Hall before the business shifted its focus towards second-hand fashion.

Her Wardrobe Markets says it has since hosted more than 500 fashion markets, bringing together people looking to clear out their wardrobes and shoppers hunting for pre-loved pieces.

The format gives people a way to resell clothing they no longer wear directly to other shoppers.

Will Red Hill Become a Regular Stop?

For now, Red Hill has had its inaugural 2 August event, with the next market scheduled for 30 August.

Her Wardrobe Markets has identified Red Hill as one of its new market communities as it expands its events across Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

Whether that translates into a longer-running fixture at the bowls club remains to be seen. For locals, the 30 August event offers another Sunday morning of coffee, clothes racks and second-hand finds close to home.
